Windows Vista (the successor to Windows XP) was first released to the public on January 30, 2007. The graphical interface of Windows Vista was heavily modified with those small UI components like checkboxes, input fields, loaders and radio buttons. In addition to this there are many more new graphical changes such as a new user interface included called 'Windows Aero', redesign of OS interface with glass-like design, windows Flip 3D effect, live thumbnail, and more animations. The most notable components of Windows Shell are updated, like the Start Menu, Windows Explorer and Taskbar, along with new features and designs. Search in Windows Vista allows users to search files and folders faster with instant search results.
Windows Vista is a major release of the Windows NT operating system developed by Microsoft. It was the direct successor to Windows XP, which was released five years earlier, at the time being the longest time span between successive releases of Microsoft's Windows desktop operating systems. Development was completed on November 8, 2006, and over the following three months, it was released in stages to computer hardware and software manufacturers, business customers, and retail channels. On January 30, 2007, it was released internationally and made available for purchase and download from the Windows Marketplace; this is the first release of Windows to be made available through a digital distribution platform.[7]
After Longhorn was named Windows Vista in July 2005, an unprecedented beta-test program was started, involving hundreds of thousands of volunteers and companies. In September of that year, Microsoft started releasing regular Community Technology Previews (CTP) to beta testers from July 2005 to February 2006. The first of these was distributed at the 2005 Microsoft Professional Developers Conference, and was subsequently released to beta testers and Microsoft Developer Network subscribers. The builds that followed incorporated most of the planned features for the final product, as well as a number of changes to the user interface, based largely on feedback from beta testers. Windows Vista was deemed feature-complete with the release of the "February CTP", released on February 22, 2006, and much of the remainder of the work between that build and the final release of the product focused on stability, performance, application and driver compatibility, and documentation. Beta 2, released in late May, was the first build to be made available to the general public through Microsoft's Customer Preview Program. It was downloaded over 5 million times. Two release candidates followed in September and October, both of which were made available to a large number of users.[24]
Windows Vista's Basic and Classic interfaces work with virtually any graphics hardware that supports Windows XP or 2000; accordingly, most discussion around Vista's graphics requirements centers on those for the Windows Aero interface. As of Windows Vista Beta 2, the NVIDIA GeForce 6 series and later, the ATI Radeon 9500 and later, Intel's GMA 950 and later integrated graphics, and a handful of VIA chipsets and S3 Graphics discrete chips are supported. Although originally supported, the GeForce FX 5 series has been dropped from newer drivers from NVIDIA. The last driver from NVIDIA to support the GeForce FX series on Vista was 96.85.[110][111] Microsoft offered a tool called the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor[109] to assist Windows XP and Vista users in determining what versions of Windows their machine is capable of running. The required server connections for this utility are no longer available. Although the installation media included in retail packages is a 32-bit DVD, customers needing a CD-ROM or customers who wish for a 64-bit install media can acquire this media through the Windows Vista Alternate Media program.[112] The Ultimate edition includes both 32-bit and 64-bit media.[113] The digitally downloaded version of Ultimate includes only one version, either 32-bit or 64-bit, from Windows Marketplace.
The Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) was replaced by the Group Policy Object Editor. An updated downloadable version of the Group Policy Management Console was released soon after the service pack.
The Platform Update for Windows Vista was released on October 27, 2009. It includes major new components that shipped with Windows 7, as well as updated runtime libraries.[144][145] It requires Service Pack 2 of Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 and is listed on Windows Update as a Recommended download.
Windows vista is a type of operating system launched in January 2007 by Microsoft. It was designed to work with both the home user and business professional. It was highly compatible with other software products while also providing new features that were not yet available on Windows XP or Windows 2000. Window Vista is not just a new version of the operating system. It revolutionized the way computers are utilized. Many features were incorporated into the operating system, and it would be impossible to include them all in this article.
Hi there, if I want to download EasyRE for Windows Vista do I actually have to do so on a computer running that OS or can I do so on a computer running Windows 7 ( 64 bit) ? May be a silly question. Regards,Brian
@Brian: Not a silly question at all! You can use any PC or Mac to download the recovery image and burn it to a CD, actually. The version of Windows on the PC you download and burn on is of no consequence.

Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 is great release after Windows XP, it is for all the types of Personal Computers with many enhancements. This free download of Vista is an ISO image for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.
Yup, there's a problem with Vista (and non-R2 Server 2008) guests - Workstation offers to install VMWare Tools that doesn't actually support it any more, and the only workaround is to download 11.0.6 ISO manually.
Both BlueFireStorm and _Ender are correct and I was wrong...Just got to test this myself on an old Vista VM and it does indeed show the same confusing popup when trying to upgrade VMware Tools. This might be because of the certs, but as setup actually ran, I think it is more likely that it is a C runtime issue. Regardless of the cause, VMware Fusion (or Workstation) itself does no longer carry a VMware Tools you can install and you have to download the latest (after which it will nag you forever to upgrade)The KB article that it points to has a reasonable clarification, but only if you are familiar with all of this.
You should connect the download via menu "Virtual Machine" -> CD/DVD -> "Choose Disk or Image..."(I had to drag & drop the downloaded iso to another location in order to be able to do that.. some Big Sur security helpful issue, as you are on Workstation I don't think you'll have that issue.)Then do not forget to also "Virtual Machine" -> CD/DVD -> "Connect CD/DVD" and you should be able to run the vmware tools installer. If it doesn't popup itself then go to the D:\ drive.
It Very much has nothing to do with the SHA-2 Code Signing Requirement. Windows Server 2008 (and Windows Vista because both share the Same Windows NT Version) got KB4474419 ( =kb4474419 -us/topic/sha-2-code-signing-support-update-for-windows-server-2008-...) and yes. it can be installed in Windows Vista like any other update from the Microsoft Update Catalog... so what makes you think that it does have anything to do with the SHA-2 Code Signing Requirement. yes i just realized i am 2 years late.heres a later edit showing that setup will start on a fresh unmodified copy of Windows 7. however it will fail. its not checking for KB4474419 only Windows 7 with Service Pack 1.
How is this legal? As long as you have the Product Key (from the bottom of a computer you paid for) for the corresponding version of Windows you download, it is perfectly legitimate and legal.
Is it still legal if I download the official iso for free from microsoft digital river and then change the text in one of the files to make the installer accept my OEM key from the bottom of my notebook computer?
What I am saying is that there is a text file in the iso to make the windows 7 installer only accept a retail key, if I open the text file oe.cfg or something in the iso and change the line from retail to oem and then save the iso and burn it to a dvd and then install windows 7 using the modified iso and use the product key from the bottom of my laptop is it still legal to use the modified iso? I have not changed anything else just the line where it says retail I changed it to oem so the istaller will accept my oem key from the bottom sticker on my laptop. It activates fine and hp assistant reconizes my serial number and all. I just dont know if it is legal to do that.
Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is now available for download. The Vista SP2 update includes new support for recording Blu-ray discs straight from the Vista OS, updated support for Bluetooth v2.1, and bug fixes that address slow shutdowns and mysterious crashes.
You can download Vista SP2 directly from Microsoft at its Web site (348MB) or it will be automatically delivered to your Vista system via Windows Update within a few weeks, according to Microsoft. You must have Vista SP1 installed on your system to install the SP2 Vista.
