In Greek tradition, a hero was a human, male or female, of the remote past, who was endowed with superhuman abilities by virtue of being descended from an immortal god. Despite their mortality, heroes, like the gods, were objects of cult worship. Nagy examines this distinctively religious notion of the hero in its many dimensions, in texts spanning the eighth to fourth centuries BCE: the Homeric Iliad and Odyssey; tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides; songs of Sappho and Pindar; and dialogues of Plato. All works are presented in English translation, with attention to the subtleties of the original Greek, and are often further illuminated by illustrations taken from Athenian vase paintings.
Results: The early mortality rate (30 days) between LR and IR patients was similar (1.70% vs 2.74%, p = 0.25) and both lower than predicted mortality rates. However, cumulative 5-year survival was significantly higher in LR patients (86.3%) than in IR patients (75.4%; p = 0.0007 by log-rank test), although excellent in IR group. Comparing IR survivors and nonsurvivors, ages at operation were 69.5 12.7 years for survivors vs 75.4 9.6 years for those experiencing late deaths (p = 0.002). Risk factors for late deaths after multivariate analysis were age, hemodialysis, and chronic lung disease.
The Coppermind has spoilers for all of Brandon's published works, now including The Lost Metal and Tress of the Emerald Sea (Secret Project 1). Information about books that have not yet been released, like the other secret novels releasing in 2023 and Stormlight 5, is allowed only on meta-pages for the books themselves. Two other forms of Tay-Sachs disease, known as juvenile and late-onset, are rare. Signs and symptoms of the juvenile form can appear between the ages of 5 years and late adolescence. Features of late-onset Tay-Sachs disease typically appear in adulthood. People with either of these forms of the condition usually have milder and more variable signs and symptoms than those with the infantile form. Characteristic features of juvenile or late-onset Tay-Saches disease include muscle weakness, loss of muscle coordination (ataxia), speech problems, and psychiatric symptoms. These signs and symptoms vary widely among people with late-onset forms of Tay-Sachs disease.
Hey folks, I am planning a book club to help my friends get up to speed on Era 2 by the release of The Lost Metal, and I thought it may be helpful to pass on the breakdown I'm going with in case anyone else was interested in catching up themselves. The section breaks are mindful of story arcs and should get you there from after the July 4th holiday to a week before release. Hyperlinks are to the Coppermind summary pages, so be mindful of spoilers. Hope it helps someone!
If anybody is interested, I made a reference correlating M:SH chapters/section to Era 1 events (See below). I used this to actually edit my personal epubs and splice the SH sections into the correct locations so that my Era 1 Omnibus now has all 5 stories (I included Eleventh Metal as well - no splicing obviously, but SH is aligned to story time). Nobody really *needs* to go that far*; but, if interested, you can just read the SH chapter at the closest compatible location:
The publication of Canada's physical activity guidelines for children and youth in 2002 represented a joint effort of the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology and Health Canada. Two sets of guidelines were published, one for children aged 6 to 9 years [2] and a second for youth aged 10 to14 years [1]. In addition to the physical activity guides, which highlighted the recommended physical activity levels for these two age groups, a number of other promotional and educational packages were developed, including family booklets [14, 15], teacher booklets [16, 17], as well as physical activity magazines for children [18] and youth [19].
Myelin is the fatty covering that surrounds the outside of nerves. If myelin is disrupted or destroyed, the nerve loses the ability to effectively transmit messages through the nerve. This interrupts messages from the body to the brain and from the brain to the body. Damage to myelin, called demyelination, disrupts the correct messaging of nerve impulses. As myelin becomes injured, protection of the nerve decreases leaving the nerve vulnerable to damage. The communication of messages along the nerve is also disrupted. There are two subgroups of TM, acute complete transverse myelitis (ACTM) which has long areas of nerve demyelination, and acute partial transverse myelitis (APTM) which has shorter areas of nerve demyelination.
Although TM can develop at any age, there are two peak times when the number of new cases per year appears to occur. These times occur between ages ten and 19 years and between 30 and 39 years of age.
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the \"Sliver of Infinity,\" reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. This saga dares to ask a simple question: What if the hero of prophecy fails
In this fourth book in the Billy Stuart series, the hero and his friends, the Zintrepids, continue their adventures on an enchanted island. They have travelled back in time to Ancient Greece. The young raccoon and his friends, Foxy (the fox), Musky (the skunk), Yeti (the weasel), Shifty (the chameleon) and FrouFrou (the dog), travel with Captain Loslobos, his sister Timoree, and his crew members. As the book begins, they explore a forest filled with carnivorous plants, giant people-eating Venus Zintrepid-Traps.
Billy Stuart and the Eye of the Cyclops is an exciting adventure story continuing the journey of the Zintrepids in Ancient Greece. The combination of heroic animal protagonists, amazing locations, mythological figures, and scary monsters is magical! The values of teamwork, friendship, and loyalty play a crucial role in the narrative. Young readers could read this book independently or listen to it as a read-aloud.
The ancient Greeks' concept of \"the hero\" was very different from what we understand by the term today. In 24 installments, based on the Harvard course Gregory Nagy has taught and refined since the 1970s, The Ancient Greek Hero in 24 Hours explores civilization's roots in Classical literature, a lineage that continues to challenge and inspire us.

The four Gospels therefore bear witness to a certain pluralism within the fundamental unity of the same mission, a pluralism which reflects different experiences and situations within the first Christian communities. It is also the result of the driving force of the Spirit himself; it encourages us to pay heed to the variety or missionary charisms and to the diversity of circumstances and peoples. Nevertheless, all the Evangelists stress that the mission of the disciples is to cooperate in the mission of Christ; \"Lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age\" (Mt 28:20). Mission, then, is based not on human abilities but on the power of the risen Lord.
The Spirit's presence and activity affect not only the individuals but also society and history, peoples, cultures and religions. Indeed, the Spirit is at the origin of the noble ideals and undertakings which benefit humanity on its journey through history: \"The Spirit of God with marvelous foresight directs the course of the ages and renews the face of the earth.\"40 The risen Christ \"is now at work in human hearts through the strength of his Spirit, not only instilling a desire for the world to come but also thereby animating, purifying and reinforcing the noble aspirations which drive the human family to make its life one that is more human and to direct the whole earth to this end.\"41 Again, it is the Spirit who sows the \"seeds of the Word\" present in various customs and cultures, preparing them for full maturity in Christ.42 153554b96e
