Our gorilla trekking guide was also excellent; he was not only passionate about gorillas but he was also very knowledgeable and most helpful. He understood our age requirements and need to see a gorilla group that was closer to the base of the mountain, and he also organised our porters and chose those who could assist us with the climb.
After breakfast, you will be driven to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters to meet with your gorilla trekking guides. They will brief you on the rules and etiquette of gorilla trekking and assign you to your gorilla family group.
There is no upper age limit on safaris. Please let us know your age and fitness level for safaris involving any form of physical exercise (such as bush walking or gorilla trekking). We will then suggest options that suit you.A letter from your physician declaring a certain fitness level might be required to partake in a walking safari if you are above a certain age. The minimum age for gorilla trekking is usually 15 years, and for walking safaris 16 years

They are an endangered species, and unique to the Virunga mountain range. Rwanda and Uganda are the only two countries where visitors have the opportunity of trekking to see them up close. I hope the incredible luck that I had with the gorillas would stay with me on this trek.
It was in the early 2000s when my father started seriously talking about gorilla trekking as one of his bucket-list adventures. But it would take another 16 years of reading, research, and reluctance before it would finally become a reality. Finally, on the 1st of July 2017, my father, along with my two brothers, sister-in-law and I set off from Cape Town to Uganda for an incredible 16-day cross-Uganda trip, arranged by Africa Geographic.
This is an active trip. Participants must be at least 15 years old, and should be physically fit. While tracking primates, guests will trek through thick jungle at elevations ranging up to 10,000 feet, for as many as eight hours, depending on the location of the primates. Treks can be arduous; and the terrain can be steep, uneven, wet, and muddy.
