Syd Dale is a funk/rock/pop/jazz artist who has a wonderful kind of warmth and appealing musicality, and I think her soprano vocal is one of the most patient and nuanced you'll hear in a while. I liked it for and in fact it reminded me of some of the best pop tunes of the 60s with a touch of the 80s ADD-squandered spirit. She's made two albums, both of them well worth digging out, though she has sadly retired from the public sound stage. She's does album covers that have a hint of the 60s-nothing-really-like-it-but-something-we-all-know-is-coming-in-the-70s kind of vibe, which get updated to the 80s, with style: -check out the DeLorean photo above -and here's a bit of her music:I feel that Syd Dale is a talented, fresh artist. I never heard anything like her before, and I don't think I will again. A simple and upbeat song is something I think that most of us can relate to. She has a somewhat urban sound with a bit of a rock feel around it. A bit of "glam" sort of feel around it. It makes me feel like there is a bit of Byrds, and a bit of The Shaggs (although not really the same) in this. The first album is called What I want, and it is great. It is different, pleasant, and fitting, and has the same feel of a pop song, that makes it enjoyable to listen to over and over. It is an uptempo, acoustic, folk or country-type genre of song. And while I believe that she is a jazz artist, and more jazz-related than rock-like, I thought that this album would fit well in the public libraries, and will work well for what she is trying to accomplish. And I think she succeeds.The second album, Syd Dale, is much the same as the first, with a few songs on each. She could really have a hit album one of these days.
