There is something truly wrong with this movie. An "event film" event indeed, it's all over the place. A guy with a head injury who still has some difficulties, is carried around by one of the main characters, clings to him, and finally protests "I'm dead! You killed me!" repeatedly. We see Jamie's late wife, visited by her evil attacker in her dreams; a scene which presumably serves to establish that there are indeed two important people in Jamie's life, a hospital orderly, and a strange old doctor, who is the only character allowed to be sympathetic, and his concern for Jamie in a coma is prominently stated even after he has reported Jamie's death. If you were to make a list of the problems with this movie, you could probably spend half an hour listing them. But because the movie has been primarily criticized for these sins, and for the obnoxious September Fool's thing with the car chase, so I will not. I will however, tell you why this movie is in my top three favorites of the NFS franchise. One: The whole premise of NFS is that you drive fast and influence people to your cause, so as you zoom around the beautiful California vistas the audience are supposed to be charmed by the pretty landscape, and they are indeed. The waterfall, the vineyards, the snow capped mountain, the asian tourists, the bikini-clad girls, the occasional pigs. This is a film about speed. Look at all the beautiful cars (you can buy a real speed car now...) Even the police. The stunt driver makes a big impression on the police, and they entrust him to investigate where earlier they had refused to even let Jamie get out of the car. That's the kind of movie this is. Two: The story centers around Jamie's attempt to recapture the first place in the Hot Pursuit race, the one he was sure who was fastest, and who had cheated in the last race. So he asks his brother Mitch to put him some advertising posters, which are a common means for a few people to earn money in this fantasy world. Mitch of course tells Jamie to forget it, and goes his own way rather than support their family. So Jamie teams up with a couple of the events from NFS Underground, and they hatch a scheme to cheat at the race. A car gets stolen, and smashed. d2c66b5586
